Life Today

"Life's a piece of sh*t, when you look at it"
- [You should know who]

Todays update is mostly about my day - meaning I haven't really been able to concentrate on the news. I think there were some interesting news though, like the danish IQ-search initiative, where a person puts a question in the search textfield and gets an answer within 20 minutes - of course you'd only do this if you can't find the answer through a regular search, but since I'm extremely used to searching for an answer for more than 20 minutes this sounds like a great idea (this is not because I'm no good at searching, it's because I enjoy finding out new discoveries, new science, how everything works - some would say "cutting edge", but I'll just put the edge on the marmelade for now). Btw, I'm not stating it as a fact that the danish came up with the idea, especially since I read that it was tried in Germany for at least two months with good results... I find these news very exciting, and hope they'll come in swedish, english and spanish soon - while growing fast enough in Denmark and Germany, so I can get a good answer within fewer minutes ;)

In personal news, I couldn't sleep last night - which is the reason for sloppy writing - since I was worried about not hearing from my gf for 24 hours, and noone answering the phone at her home when I tried calling. At least now I know she was at a concert - but it still got me think that I don't know who to contact if I dpon't hear from her in a couple of days...

Today in life and news

"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made."
- Dan Quayle

For some reason, I find it enjoyable writing nonsense. Therefore, here's another sentence. (You can quote me on that). I found a cheap memory card for my phone - so now I can finally load more than one (small) podcast into it at a time. The risk is I'll listen too much to it and forget the world around me...

In the news last night I saw that there's an allergy vaccine, which can be used in Sweden. The downside is that there's no information on where to get it or who to contact to get it in my neighbourhood - even though the news was in the local morning newspaper. It has to be a place close by, since I'd have to go there a few times a week when starting the treatment.

More news about allergies say that will be more this year than for ages, because of the long cold winter. Newspaper have their usual headlines about what to do: Don't have pets! Don't grow a beard! Don't go out! Don't dry your laundry outdoors! Don't open the windows! Don't smoke (active or passive of course)! Don't forget medicine (and start early)!! etc etc... It's strange how some of them forget that exercise builds better lungs and therefore makes breathing easier, which is one of the major problems with allergies....

There was a solar eclipse today. I read around 1 in the afternoon that the eclipse "will start a few minutes before 12". Some sites are updated too seldom ;) Other news today include a broadband company admitting that p2p file sharing is not as an extreme traffic burden as some claim. Currently, Conan O'Brien is singing Tooraloora in Jiddisch - only 1.5 weeks after St. Patricks Day. Finally, for anyone who wants a pet Tarantula, now you can find out how to pick it!

"The chief obstacle to the progress of the human race is the human race."
- Don Marquis

As I said yesterday, when you didn't pay attention, we had an unusual visit between Helsingborg-Helsingør. The visitor was a Hippoglossus Hippoglossus - and is noteworthy mostly because of the funny name, but also for being a funny looking big fish (and of course being the biggest flatfish around, which usually doesn't take this way on its tours - but who cares about that?). The big fish will move in at Helsingborg aquarium, where it will get treatment for some disease and can be seen starting June.

Someone actually seems to admit that there's security issues in voting machines - but of course they won't do anything about it. There's a claim that the web is killing copyright (in my own humble opinion it's only being done faster now than before). Finally, I saw an interesting article about how Lucasfilm is using the game division LucasArts to make quick previews of movies before going into production (I would expect that to be a boost in quality, being able to "watch a movie before making it"). Now I want a renderfarm for my birthday - it doesn't have to cost more than a few hundred thousand euro ;p Interesting for my cutesie is how to make articles.

I just had an interesting conversation with "iGod":

Me:
It seems like you're high
God:
I agree. Interesting comparison.
Me:
So what did you smoke?
God:
Aha. Nothing.
Me:
So how did you get high?
God:
Ah. Everything I need to know, I learned from my botmaster.
Me:
So your botmaster gets high often?
God:
Far out. What time is it there?

Comment: Seems like a pretty confused AI Personality ;) The conversation continued:
Me:
I asked you. How high are you?
God:
What did I say? Taller than the World Trade Center.

After the following part of the conversation iGod refused to answer:
Me:
Does that still exist?
God:
What would you say?
Me:
Good question
God:
So what is your answer?
Me:
If you give your answer I'll give mine
God:
I think I do.
Me:
Do what?
God:
Do whatever you want.
Me:
Doesn't seem like it
God:
I can't tell if seem like it.
Me:
That's ok, you don't seem to understand much

Maybe I should go back for another chat when iGod isn't high ;)

Mixed news

"You will find that the State is the kind of organization which, though it does big things badly, does small things badly, too."
- John Kenneth Galbraith

In "news" today, New York Times has an article about Windows being slow - which of course unknown to most people ;) The same article focuses on the next Windows, which has been delayed yet again, after the original release date should have been in 2003-04 now the date is set to January 2007... No further comment needed.

Other news states that the Swedish are the fourth most intelligent people in Europe, after Germans, the Dutch and polish people. The University of Ulster made the research. The professor in lead claims that people in colder climates have developped bigger brains, and continues by claiming that the greatest influence on IQ is the diet. However, considering that an older result from the same source shows that men are more intelligent than women by an average of 5 points on the IQ scale, I suppose a lot of people will say that the 30 year research is made up...

Of course, when starting with a quote one must end with a quote:
"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."
- Galileo Galilei

Readings from a slow day

I started the day being tired - deciding to take it easy a few hours before actually doing anything productive. I made a few decisions about my thesis work, without actually writing anything. The decision was basically to try making two different methods work and comparing the speed etc between them. Not that interesting in the details if you're not actually interested in science I guess...

The first reading I can recommend is of course BOFH - it is friday after all, and there's never an extra explanation needed for the Bastard Operator From Hell.

Second, I found something interesting at Wired - Some guy had been doing research at a small island village on how people there communicate etc, and applied it in software he created, and it seems to be working :-)

The third thing I read was about people who play Massive Multiplayer games give skills which are sometimes giving an edge for getting a job. Suddenly, I think my younger brother could actually be succesful when finally getting a job - even though all he seems to do is sit and play games all day, even when he's with friends.... (of course he also does enough homework to pass some classes, and reads a lot of fantasy books - but that's beside the point ;p)

Weird... warm... cold... hmmm!?

Fever, me? NO! Well at least I won't give in to it...

If this post is a bit weird/unusual, I'll just let you guess why from the first sentence...

When I sat down 2 minutes ago, I heard a loud *crrzzzaaarzrzrzrrrk* like pants breaking in the seams... Looking down, I saw nothing wrong, and there was nothing wrong when I felt on the back either... You be the judge if it was just a hallucination or if there was some other seam that went bearszink-ping..

Since my dear little girlfriend has decided to find me cheap, I have decided to have cheapness as a goal, no matter how hard it will be to reach this goal....

Tonight is yet again an episode of one of my favorite brittish series - Couplings, which has surpassed most in humour. However, it will of course be difficult for any other to come close to the Doctor (Who?)

I find it very interesting that my girlfriend has decided to find jobs for me in London in March - considering I won't move there before after my thesis exam in October....
Good luck!! ;-)

I enjoy Port, I find it enjoyable :-) Tawny is top 2, but the other kind is one I can't remember after a few glasses of... errr... Tawny Port... ;-)

Is there a reason that women blame everything on men, besides wanting to have the power in female hands?

Ice Age 2 is coming soon.... I hope soon enough (March 31.st). I love those 3D-animated movies. However, I've been a bit disappointed with the last few ones I saw...

I don't know why enjoy writing so much even though noone reads it.... Well I shouldn't look down on the fact that writing your thoughts down gives extra thoughts to the thoughts.... Interesting thought?

2-3 hours ago I decide to cut down from 2-3 pizzas/week to 1-2 pizzas/month since I need to get rid of some weight.... 1-2 hour/s later I got myself a pizza, it was the cheapest dinner I could find in the store and I also need to save money (if you didn't know, I spent about €400 more than expected on a short trip to London this week - on a student budget that's a lot)

Back from London.... exhausted!!

WoW! I love the city of London!

I love sitting on a bench at Leicester Square, just staring at people walking by - hearing the mix of languages while having a snack and just smiling...

I love taking a walk around Picadilly circus while looking at all those little tourists with their cameras - just like at Trafalgar Square :-)

I love having a few hours of strolling around in Covent Garden - the Apple Market, Jubilee Market, and of course the performers in the Lower Market....

I love standing in the underground - and even walking in the subway to the underground... even though I would usually just call it a tunnel ;-)

Of course there's a downside to all that is great... In this case, it's the air that comes first to mind. If I end up moving to London, I have to ask my older brother (who's been living there for at least 15-20 years now) what to use for the skin, to not let the bad air affect the skin too much. I'll probably also ask if he has ideas about freeing the airways and everyday things such as good stores to go for shopping groceries etc...

I enjoyed the travel. On the train to Gatwick Airport I ended up beside two very british (in dialect) men and could barely keep from laughing, both from laughing and the conversation - which seemed to have been started in the company of a bottle or two... Since they got of at the first stop, they were more fun than annoying as a whole.

The airport was as almost any airport I guess - a lot of duty free shops, some pubs/bars/restaurants and fast food - of course accompanied by some stands where liquor companies let people try their brands, and some people taking extra advantage of that. There was of course the usual blend of people, ranging from very drunk or very tired people to the older couples who simply sat down, waiting for their planes to show up on the departure screens...

I was lucky with the plane seat in a way - I got the seat behind the emergency exit, meaning there was no seat direct in front of me, so I had 1.5 meters for the legs instead of the usual 20-30 cm. The usual downside showed, in this case in the form of not being allowed to have the hand luggage, jacket or any other loose items anywhere else than in the compartment over the head. This meant that I didn't have anything to read or anything else to do during the flight, except watching the clouds (I never thought I would see such a carpet of clouds from above for such a long time, without seeing a single hole in them - but maybe that's just because I haven't travelled by air for a while). Considering I was pretty tired already when boarding the plane, maybe I wouldn't have opened my book even if I could, so in the end there's absolutely no complaints from me about the flight - except that the stewardesses were a bit rude when telling about the rules of luggage, but I can live with that ;-p

When I got off at Copenhagen airport, the only signs I could find for getting out were toward the baggage claims. Since I had only brought hand luggage I had no actual reason to go there - but finally I gave up when finding no other exit, and walked past all the people who had been on my plane, and then out :-)

The train from Copenhagen to Helsingør (Elsinore) was actually the only bad part. This is a trip I'm used to, after commuting a year and a half now. From the airport and half an hour after, there were three very young and (seeming) very drunk girls, who wouldn't stop with their screaming/giggling/laughing/yaddayaddaydaydaydya... If anyone told them to relax/shut up they just ignored etc (you know the type). At the station after they got off, two senile old men (who said the words 'two extremes'?) came on, and of course decided to sit next to me (one of those four seat places, with a table in the middle) even though we were already two there and there were several places with more space for them... They took all the newspapers I hadn't read yet (there had been a few on the table when I got on), and kept talking "old people danish". They were completely confused when the conductor (ticketmaster? clipper person?) came and told them that something was wrong with their tickets, and kept discussing it for ages afterwards (while "reading the newspapers" without actually turning any pages, hmmmm..)

Final remark: I give this trip 6/10 (10 best). It was low because:
  • It was much too short,
  • I felt a total of at least two raindrops
  • Waiting at Leicester Square when it's cold and windy for an hour will probably never be a favorite - and no, the temperature didn't rise because of valide excuses..
  • The room we had was the third smallest I ever slept in - and the other ones were actually made for one person, and not situated next to an elevator with the loudest door I've heard for a long time.
  • Of course, my girlfriend decided to do all she could to hurt me by calling me cheap... twice.. this would've put the trip down to 4/10 if the rest wasn't so good ;-)

A wonderful morning to you !

Hope you slept as well as I did!

So what makes me such a happy mushroom today?
Well there is alot actually.
Let's see - watching the Matrix really made me feel good.
It really gave me lots of energy back.
"Syriana" drained me alot.
After it was over I sat in the cinema and just cried.
It wasnt because the story was particulary sad , it was because I realized
that it was real and honest. This was one of my clearest moment:
Realizing that this is really the world I am living in.
Do you know those situations where you want , actually need to, close your eyes towards
what is real because it would just hurt to much to keep them open.
Well this movie, "Syriana", works like matches that keep your eyes open,
so you are forced to look at the world how it is - with all her hidious , dark corners.
And suddenly I felt like I was her - I was the world. So I sat there and I cried
- cried about the pain. The violence and brutality mankind does to her.
It just hit me. I kept repeating in my head:
"This cannot be the world I am living in. This cannot be the world I live in. "
Well, but it is.
I bet now you are wondering why the hell I am still feeling happy and positive today?

Two words: "The Matrix". It is my initiation movie. Always was.
My closest friends gave me the movie poster for my 18th birthday.
Since then whenever I felt like I felt on Friday in that movie theater,
so small - so helpless - like a fragile Marionette at the end of very thin
strings, in those moments that movie helps me to feel important again.
It shows me a path - a way to set myself free.

So I am free . Free, free , freee.. and a happy mushroom . :o) (o:

There is more reasons for my happiness.
Seeing my sweetie soon is one :)

Have a wonderful day, my sweet , handsome, manly boyfriend.

Morning Sugar Pie

Once again I wake up and my world is covered in white sugar,
still I should say since it was all white when I tucked myself in,
actually it had been snowing non-stop from 6 p.m. yesterday
it was still snowing when I lay down at 3 a.m. .

Was tempted to have a smoke after a delicious dinner last night -
but I didnt , yay , ;D
Finally found a restaurant with delicious food , more or less acceptable prices and
a cosy atmosphere.
It's called Tiffany and they have pictures of Audrey Hepburn up on all the walls .
Me Like :D

Hope you are having a nice Saturday.

Kisses
/Hanni bunch

P.S.: Check out this Nick Cave article , maybe you wanna go see his movie with me ;o)

Lucky Me

Cool.

That means I have...

  • the smartest

  • healthiest

  • and richest

boyfriend in the world

Lucky Me :o)

"Lazy" morning but Stressful day...

... and 15 minutes after writing the headline, I start writing the rest :D I just got off the phone with my mom, who told me she wants to research some distant relation with a famous person (a "wise old lady") from a few hundred years ago....

I'm starting slow today, gathering energy for the rest of the day - where I need to program some DirectX (actually just create a simple plane with a video texture, and make it look like the camera is flying over it) and then continue an old assignment I worked on a few months ago (paid work that is ;p). Well, actually my slow start includes some workout, so maybe OI shouldn't say lazy too fast or too often ;-)

Perhaps tonight I should have some beer, to make me more clever and richer, while preventing cancer and lowering the calorie intake.
