Logo... hmmm... name... hmm...

I decided to try coming up with a name and logo for the software I've created for my thesis. So far I have around 20-30 names and two created logos :-) More name suggestions are welcome, and so are suggestions on what should be in the logo...

The two logos I've created:

I won't use any of those two, but it's always good to create something from brainstorming quick to get ideas, and then see if there's any parts worth keeping after doing a few test iterations....

And some more:

Why bother?

Some days I wonder if recruiters actually look at the CV before calling...

Today, while at the library, I was called by a recruiter from London (yes, the London in UK, capitol of England, Great Britain) , and was asked what my work situation was like and when I could be available for a job she thought suited me. When I said that there's 2-3 weeks left on my Uni studies and I would be available for jobs after that, she became quiet and said something like 'Oh, you are studying at the Uni?', even though it says that I'm about to finish up my studies in the first sentence of the CV I've sent to brittish sites, in the same first sentence where it says that I've been working parallel to the studies for the last 4-5 years.

She continued with something like 'since you are graduating now, you probably don't have enough experience' etc., even though I probably do.

Because the library was noisy (screaming children etc) while I talked to her, I didn't think about asking more about the job, or even stating that I probably do have the required experience combined with being a fast learner. Well, there's always things you think about after hanging up. I should probably make some list of questions and 'corrections' to use when talking to recruiters.

By the way, she said before hanging up that she found my CV in a search through their database
- I wonder why she didn't bother actually looking at the CV...

Well, not that London

I looked around for jobs in Computer Vision online today. I saw a job with a short description, where it said it was situated "along the banks of the Thames River in London" which of course sounds great.

Reading a few more words in the same sentence, I learned that London, Ontario (outside Toronto, Canada) has a river called Thames....

Oh what a day!

My head is mash!

I spent 4-5 hours at the library, reading, structuring and commenting articles, papers, notes and books - and writing four pages for my report...

I did some work before leaving the library as well - but nowhere else is as productive as there. It's amazing how interesting cleaning up, washing dishes and watering the plants can be when you stay home for studying...

I went through less than one percent of the material I already had, but still had to find almost as much more material to refer to in the report...

I created new algorithms for some parts of the program, which should improve both measurement accuracy and maybe even the speed. Hopefully I can implement it after dinner tonight...

I have tired eyes and a hungry stomach, but it's worth it after a productive day at the library...

I'm making fish and rice for dinner, accompanied by some 'summer vegetables'...

I believe I deserve watching some TV for 30 minutes following the dinner...

I start too many sentences with the letter 'I' in this post - I wonder why..?

I need to start yoga again soon, there's nothing else as relaxing...

no way!

Well it is lovely to hear from you and what ur up to.
Thats great news , and that after one day of effort it seems.

Would be cool if u could check ur email frequently aswell though... since I am waiting alot for u to come on skype so we can gave a chat....
I even bring my phone everyday.
Anyway please keep posting so much , I quite like it ;o)
especially I since I am home so little, or gotten bad at calling as u put it :p

Honestly: I just would prefer I could call u via skype from the library....which would be much easier if u were online on skype more , had ur laptop on more...
Otherwise I gotta ask myself why I am carrying around my laptop so much and just might start to leave it at home more often...well anyway miss ur voice is all...

And no I wont give up on studying so late , I just am slow at working, but it is the only way I learn , if I take my time!
So please respect that and allow me to reach u on skype more often.
That would be very kind and make things easier and also would keep u from worrying.

so I talk to u soon , I hope...

Posting too often?

I get the feeling that three posts in one day is a bit much, but since I got some news (and there's a general request about posting new instead of updating old) I'll post another one anyway :-P

Today, I got two interesting e-mails among many others. Actually I got more e-mails that were interesting, but that has nothing to do with this post...

Both were from recruiters based in London. One had the following message (part quote):
"Hi Emil,

I am keen to speak to you regarding the role you applied for.

Can you contact me to discuss this further."

This first one was regarding a C# Developer Role which seemed interesting. Actually one of those I applied for where I have all the skills and then some more which would fit :-)

The second e-mail I got had the message:
"Hope you are well.

I am currently recruiting on behalf of my client in Denmark, for a role your skillset would be absolutely ideal for.

Please send me information regarding your availability, daily charge rate, languages as well as an up-to-date CV."

So the summary is that I got two interesting e-mails regarding jobs from London. The crux is that one of them is in Denmark. Isn't that hilarious? The job in London seems to be very interesting, as long as I can finish my thesis before starting (and have 3-4 days free for the thesis exam), and the job in Denmark I have no clue about what it is. Something funny about the one in Denmark is that the site from where the Denmark e-mail was sent only has UK jobs posted on the site...

Weird day to say the least...

Job hunt? Thesis writing? Free time? When?

A few days ago, I sat down to sort out and find the best job hunting sites for IT people in London. I'm getting around 4-500 rss messages each week from job sites. From these, about a quarter are jobs I could apply for, and a tenth are jobs where I fit all the skills and often even have more skills which I believe would be useful to the people who wrote the ad.

The job hunting is not easy, since I'm not certain about a date which I can start. This is mostly due to my thesis having uncertain deadlines, and especially that there is no specified date for the thesis exam, which is only set to 'within six weeks counting from the date you hand in the exam'. Hearing rumors about the university changing official deadline dates from January 1st to February 1st for everyone doesn't make it is easier to tell recruiters when I can start, or if I need a couple of days free to take the thesis exam 'sometime in January, February or March'. Don't you just love university bureaucracy? A lot of it seems to be there just so that enough people have enough tasks to perform.

I was awake until six this morning, not being able to sleep from all the coffee I had yesterday. I got up three times to make notes for the thesis. After four hours of sleep, I got up and it took five minutes to program the changes - and worked right away - sometimes it's wonderful to do projects. The changes were actually not necessary, but will make it much easier to use the application. This is an area I probably focused too much on the last few days, but now my testing process of the application is much faster :-) (I really miss smilies sometimes in blogger)

Now I'm trying to decide if I should continue on the thesis report, program the last important function for the thesis software, or if I should relax for 30 minutes with lunch and maybe a walk...

I think I'll continue creating my 3D model of the Helsingborg footie stadium after finishing the programming. After some work on that, I'll probably start on creating a website for my mom, and at the same time refresh my skills with php, mysql and ajax - maybe even reinstall LAMP (Linux, Apache server, MySQL and PHP) on one of my computers to have as a local backup server :-)

I'm such a nerd after no sleep....

The Art of Not Sleeping..

.. walks in mysterious ways.

At 6:25 in the morning I gave up on trying to sleep, and decided to close my eyes five minutes while waiting for the morning TV news to start. I opened my eyes again at 10:45...

Yesterday I mostly kept on fixing bugs, and came up with mini improvements for the program I'm creating. Around eight at night I decided to work with the report a bit. So I sorted the articles I have found over the year, and structured the text I've already written into a report document. Now I have 18 pages written, before starting a look on all those articles - which I have a plan for which order to find material (always start with the surveys and most shallow information)...

The reason for not sleeping? A liter of coffee of course.

Have a fun day :-)

Another day...

My mom came over for lunch after finishing work early today, and brought bread, apples and some 'extra stuff' :-D After chatting with her over lunch I now know what to give my brothers for x-mas and what to give my mom for birthday, and also know where to get it :-) Actually, I'm giving my mom a painting or two for her birthday (the 'psychedelic' ones I made in the summer), since I don't have time to make new ones or buy something (no time for anything but the thesis now).

My programming went on last night, but every day gives some part which has to be figured out. Yesterday, I had to change a lot of old programming to fit with a new improved algorithm I designed. Today, I need to figure out how to iterate through multiple photos, calculate the relative pose (rotation and movement of the camera) and then calculate the size of a 3D model from that. I know what to do about 98% of that, so hopefully the last 2 percent won't give any trouble :-)

Btw, I'm not going to write here every day! It divides too much of my attention from the thesis, and there's not that much difference from day to day for me atm. Have a nice day

begging for attention

So , if I may make a suggestion, considering that I am not home a lot. Could we use this as our main communication device, please.
apart from skype I mean ;)
There is news about the internet / phone situation. The company wrote a letter saying that the internet will take around 10 more days. Free calls to europe should be active for me like immediately. Problem just is that I am hardly home early enough to call u, so for the last view days I have been bringing ur skype phone to uni so we can talk using it...
what do u think? do u still like me enough to talk to me on the phone? Or u very angry ? Well think about it , I ll try to be online via my laptop as much as I can while at uni...
/Kisses

Snow Women and the Domino effect

Amazing that you had snow already , looks a bit like you faked it though, sprinkling some crumbled mentos on a bush werent you? Admit it : There is a mentos scientist inside you!?!
Weird thing: I have been talking about snow earlier today. Maria mentioned how she loved the sound that is produced when one walks on fresh snow.
Which reminds me: I am looking forward to my first british snow and along with it, of course,
my first british snowwoman.

So : As of now I am taking suggestions on where in London I should build it. There should be space around, of course, it doesnt have to be a park though.

My first suggestion:

  • Leicester Square !!!

  • there is those little tags saying city names around the world and the distance and I think I will build her on Rio! And I call her Ryanne. Coldblooded Ryanne from Rio.
Now over to you, as my first english teacher used to say,

What Do you think where I should build her?

    First snow...

The snow came early this year. Although it's a very small amount, it's still snow. Last few years, we haven't seen snow before December, and sometimes not until January or even February...

If you look close on the big bush in the middle, you'll see snow on the leafs. We didn't have autumn yet, so the leafs didn't go yellow, then brown and fall off. Hope you have a nice summer-winter-spring-day :-)
