London curiosities...

I've been reading a few tips for swedes moving to London lately, just to be prepared in a few months. The reason I do it already is because someone is moving there tomorrow, and that motivated me a bit :-)

One interesting thing, which could be helpful also for other europeans who have the same type of power outlets we do, is that you can actually use our two-plug cables directly in a brittish outlet, if you put a non electricity-leading object into the third hole. It's recommended only to do it with things you're not as careful about though, so don't plug in the laptop the first thing - then it's still a better idea with the adapter ;-) Of course, the fire insurance probably wouldn't be valid if you use this method...

If a swedish person would get homesick, then he or she should simply go to the swedish parts, with the swedish church, embassy, store and pub on short distances close to Marylebone Rd.

The pub Harcourt Arms has free wireless access (if you buy something to eat or drink), show swedish footie and serves swedish cider - and of course they have swedish staff...

Islington/N1 has free wireless access along Upper Street from Angel to Highbury & Islington which is called "StreetNet" - no username or such needed, me like!

If you're interested ingetting a broadband connection you can check what's available in your area, and then compare different providers.

An often recommended site for jobs, travelling, renting of flats/rooms etc is gumtree. They also have forums to discuss ads, which helps a lot against overpricing or fraud.

Of course all this looking around me want to go to London soooo much, so I booked a ticket for October 5th-9th. Now I have to work a lot to get enough money for survival - this ticket together with the Champions LEague ticket I got set me back wwaaaaaaay toooo muuuuuch!!! I sent an e-mail to one of my clients/employers to see if there's more work, since I'm guessing I won't get more money from the swedish study loan board (or whatever you want to call it in english). YIKES!!!

Good Luck with the move to London tomorrow my Schweeeeeet! I'll be moving after you in a few months ;)
